Fast Windup

500.00

The most dangerous drive of my life, and my last as a car owner. In late spring of 2015 I drove my '87 Jeep Wrangler from Venice Beach to Temecula directly adjacent to the coast until Capistrano where I headed up and over the Ortega Highway. It was the final voyage of my Jeep as I was delivering it to a mechanic in my hometown with no intention of seeing it again. Normally, you'd assume a Jeep ride in Southern California is a dream come true, unless it happens to be unusually cold, in the dead of night, with a rickety ride, no top, no heater and long whiplashing hair. I'm incredibly thankful that I've never experienced the treacherous ride of a P-51, but I can only imagine this ride was the closest thing I'll know. My hands were frozen, my hair whipping my eyes, my body was shaking, my ears were ringing. With one hand on the wheel, one holding my hair and the other tucked into the warmth of my seat, it was challenging and scary driving one of California's most dangerous roads. Half way through my climb up the Ortega, I stopped to warm up. I was laying across the hood of this lawnmower of car waiting to regain feeling in my hands. I pulled out my camera as an excuse to stay longer, this was the result.
