Less than one year after moving to Los Angeles I lost my first job. I was laid off due to financial instability of a storied architecture firm in Venice beach where I lived at the time. For several months, I was able to make ends meet by working with my father who happened to have job on the eastern edge of LA county. Months earlier, I'd decided to live car-free in LA, so my crosstown journey to my new job involved 1 skateboard, 2 buses and Metro's green line from LAX to Norwalk. I spent a lot of time coming and going from this interchange near LAX, with every pass my fascination was triggered. Eventually, I found work closer to home and with a less demanding commute I had more time to enjoy the city I call home. During the first week at my new job, I decided to spend an afternoon exploring this feat of engineering and memorial to my own financial instability. Despite my overwhelming disdain for the car's destructive demands on our beautiful landscape, these massive interchanges always impress me.
